The beautiful island of Lobos is a small volcanic island which is located just 2 kilometers North of the island of Fuerteventura, 8 Kilometers from the island of Lanzarote, and has been a national park (Parque Natural del Islote de Lobos) since 1982. As a national Park Lobos Island is a protected natural area measuring under 5 square kilometers in size & boasting the picturesque natural scenery of wonderful beaches with white sand and crystal-clear water.
Translated as Wolves Island, Lobos Island was originally named after the large number of Monk Seals, also known as Sea Wolves, that inhabited the Island when it was discovered by the Spanish conquerors in the fifteenth Century, however due to the large scale on which they were hunted by Man, they are now extinct on the Island.
This special island is a must visit location for day trips for tourists from Fuerteventura & Lanzarote who have an interest in flora, fauna and geology, or just an affinity to white sandy beaches and crystal-clear water.
